Writing without an account

Guest entries and photos are saved in this browser on your device. They are not synced to a journal account until you sign in or create one. The browser also remembers whether you have hidden the sample entries.

Writing with an account

Account features use your name, email address, sign-in information, journal text, photos, favorites, timezone, and any reminder preferences you choose. Synced data is stored on our backend. The browser also keeps a local copy to support drafts and syncing.

Why this information is used

It supports signing in, saving and retrieving your journal, syncing across devices, account messages, optional reminders, and membership management. Journal entries are not published as a public feed. Samples are separate demonstration content and are never added to your export.

Services involved

The website is hosted on Vercel, and the backend and photo storage use Amazon Web Services. Google handles authentication if you choose Google sign-in. Dodo Payments handles checkout for paid plans. These providers receive information needed for their part of the service. Hosting providers may also process connection and operational logs. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand visits and how the website is used. Google Analytics uses cookies and processes information about pages visited, interactions, and browser and device characteristics. We do not add journal text, photos, names, or email addresses to our analytics events. We record browser-level milestones when an entry is saved, including a first save and writing again on a later day. A local browser marker prevents repeated counting within the same day. Our analytics setup removes query strings and fragments from the page and referrer URLs it supplies to Google.

Browser storage

The app uses a session cookie for sign-in and browser storage for journal drafts and preferences. Clearing site data removes local copies and preferences; it does not by itself delete an account or its synced data.

Your choices

You can edit entries, remove attached photos, change account preferences, and export your journal. Contact details for account and privacy requests will be listed on the contact page. Avoid including journal text or photos in a support request unless they are necessary to explain your issue.
